Kudos to Irina for the nomination.
Rules
- Pick a favorite series/movie for each letter of the alphabet. For titles starting with “a” “an” or “the” use the first letter of the next word of the title.
- Since many titles have multiple names based on the language that you are using please pick one language for the entire list (Use all English titles or all Japanese titles) and let the readers know which language you will be using. If a title has the same name regardless of the language then it can be used in any list.
- If you don’t have a title that fits under a particular letter, you can name another favorite from a different letter in its place, just indicate which letter spot you are using for that series. This can be done up to three times. If you can’t fill a spot then you can leave it blank. No more than 26 total series are allowed.
- Including a picture for each series is encouraged.
- Share who tagged you for this challenge and nominate 3 more to try it themselves and include links to their blogs.
- Just have fun with this challenge. I wanted to get everyone to share some favorite series and to spread the word about awesome blogs!
My idea with the images was to reuse as many of my old images as possible, just to make things easier for me. See if you can remember where I first used them…or if I’ve pulled something from a future article, even! This was an experiment to see what the gender ratio was of characters in my image archives, and it turns out, it’s mostly just pretty boys… I’ve also linked AniList entries for everything in case you haven’t heard of the anime in question, but the anime range from “hugely popular” to “somewhat obscure” – hugely obscure anime never come to mind first, after all. That’s what makes them obscure!
Also, I did try to find pictures for everything…until I realised it had been almost a week since I first noticed Irina’s nomination and it was becoming a chore to do (thereby coming close to breaking rule 6), because finding 26 pictures when you don’t normally use pictures can do that to a blogger and sometimes you know there’s an anime that fits the letter, but you don’t really have anything to say for the anime in question. Sorry if it seems a little barebones as a result of that.
Note: I mention “AMQ” once or twice. That’s Anime Music Quiz for those who’ve never played it.
Note 2: I am using English titles. You’ll see why in one of the entries below.
Aria the Animation
…because obvious joke is obvious.
Bungou Stray Dogs
One of my favourite manga and soon to be spectre that will forever haunt me with the anime adaption of the comedy spinoff, Wan!. Stop reminding me that I was responsible for a minor fandom meme…!
(The) Case Files of Jeweler Richard
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
Erased
This name has more meaning and is shorter than the somewhat confusing/intriguing Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (A Town Where Only I Don’t Exist), so I prefer it over the Japanese title.
Flip Flappers
(I did have some images for this anime in my archives, but those are meant to be an Easter egg on my Tumblr, so I shall abstain from including them here.)
Golden Kamuy
Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto
Fun show.
ID: INVADED
Fun show…again. I do admit it’s not the best visually, but it is distinctive all the same.
Joshikausei
Not a lot of choice here, so I had to go with an anime I dropped.
Kiznaiver
Decent anime.
Listeners
Muhyo and Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigation
S2 this season! I’m still catching up with it as I type this post, in fact.
Noragami
The English title of the manga adds the subtitle/translation “Stray God”, but give or take that, Noragami is Noragami.
One Punch Man
ONE PUNCH!
Prince of Stride: Alternative
Qualidea Code
Not a lot of choice here, so I had to go with an anime I dropped.
ReLIFE
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
“This is licensed as Descending Stories, right?” is probably what you’re thinking. The manga and the anime’s 2nd season seem to be licensed under that name (as a big combo, i.e. “Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu“), but the first season is simply known under this name, so I stuck with it.
Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru
Un-Go
If I went with the Japanese, I could’ve gotten Urashimasakatasen no Nichijou – a fairly middling TV short that I finished recently as of the time of posting this – but I had to be strategic with the titles and it’s more of a challenge with the English titles, I think.
Vandread
One I haven’t seen, but you can’t afford to be picky with the uncommon letters. I know Scott’s seen it though.
When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace (Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de)
I’ve never talked about this series before. I did try it when it was simulcasting, but left it aside for better things in its season…specifically, since it debuted in my first season with simulcasts, said “better things” would have been Orefuro and Gugure.
Xam’d: Lost Memories (Bounen no Zamudo)
An obscure thing which I remembered existed – I have encountered the name before and such an uncommon name sticks in the mind for years after encountering it – when Scott had it show up in AMQ one time. Turns out Boom Boom Satellites doesn’t just have Lay Your Hands on Me to their credit – they have a pretty extensive discography, including this. (You can also find this song on Spotify!)
Yotsuiro Biyori
Remember how I didn’t even remember this anime existed because I memorised its name as “Rokuhoudou”? That’s why I don’t really like this English licensed name…Or use it, for that matter.
Zombieland Saga
I am nominating:
- Iniksbane
- Nabe-chan (I read that you updated your website to go “zoom zoom” recently, so I’ll let everyone else check it out through this!)
- K (who’s hopefully still at the movies at this point…or Dekuing it out or something…)
Hopefully I haven’t doubled up on nominations with anyone else…
