Finally, some time to make more space for…stuff…

As I head into what will inevitably be a very tumultous final few months of my schooling, ever…again…and with the Funimation cut having come and gone, there was no way I was ever going to be able to finish everything I ever watched on Funimation. I’ve been trying to watch it all for seasons now, but things like the Amazing Race and TV Tropes are just much higher priorities, okay?

Sidenote: One of the things I should do with my newly-acquired free time some months in the future is brush up on the American Race. I started with season 13 – one of my first memories of the series was the silly march – and the anniversary of 9/11 earlier last month made me realise how old the series is at this point. (Admittedly, I did try starting from episode 1 at one point and was kind of alarmed at how different it was!) Season 34 just began a few weeks ago too and I’ve caught up on it (thank you, legal streaming!).

Enough of that though – we want anime, we’re talking anime. You know the drill by now: most to least hype, nothing out of my range in terms of licensing or platforms.

Gonna Get on to it ASAP:

  • Mob Psycho 100 III: This is tied with Spy x Family, to be honest, but this edges out because I already know what happens in the first two episodes.
  • Spy x Family Pt 2: The unconventional family is back!
  • Akuyaku Reijou nano de Last Boss wo Kattemimashita/I’m the Villainess, So I Tried Taming the Last Boss: I loved it at CRX…even if because a certain Ume made me basically delirious in my seat… *sweatdrops*
  • Fumetsu no Anata e Season 2: I’m not caught up with the series, but from what I know of the manga, the more it goes along, the more complex it gets. What starts as a non-shonen becomes a fighting shonen amplified by the lives Fushi encounters.
  • Kokyuu no Karasu/Raven of the Inner Palace: Suddenly, these Chinese-inspired series are showing up and…I don’t know if I like it, as noted when I said wuxia is more my parents’ thing and not mine. That said, this is a mystery (and probably the best thing we can get until an adaption of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto…which I haven’t read, but have heard nothing but good things about), which automatically elevates it above much of its competition.
  • Shinobi no Ittoki: It…sounds cool. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • Mushikaburihime/Bibliophile Princess: I don’t want to ask too much of this series (because it’s entirely possible this could be a snoozefest or some character could be insufferable enough for the drop pile), but since it’s just a romance about exactly what’s on the tin, it’s…not a lot to ask in the first place.

Give It a Go:

  • My Master Has No Tail/Uchi no Shishou wa Shippou ga Nai: I heard you say “rakugo, but with a woman tanuki”, so I came. (<- somewhat kidding)
  • Eternal Boys: Idol boys, but older? I’m not a DILF chaser (although Jakurai would beg to differ…/jk), but I’m all for the adult protagonist trend.
  • Blue Lock: I saw this at CRX and at least am committed to giving the whole first episode a go by sheer obligation now.
  • Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!/The Eminence in Shadow: This series has been quite hyped up, to the point HiDive got it seasons before it began airing! That said, I don’t know much about this series, so it’s good to go in as cold as possible.
  • Reincarnated as a Sword: Next, we’re going to get an isekai of a vending machine. (/srs) The weirdness alone is enough to attract people to this anime.
  • Urusei Yatsura (2022): This series was really big way back when and…to be honest, I don’t love the manga (especially not Ataru’s pervy moments, which aged really badly), but I do tolerate it enough I’ve read several of the omnibuses Viz churned out.
  • Akiba Maid Sensou: I would’ve passed on this, but the initial buzz I saw around this was good enough for me to check it out myself. That said, it’s not completely in my ballpark, so I don’t mind if I leave it or take it.
  • Vazzrock the Animation: This would be good…if TsukiPro and/or TsukiUta had worked out for me. Otherwise, this post proves there’s so much more out there that this sinks like a stone.

Catch up on:

  • Boku no Hero Academia 6: Despite my love of superheroes and the like, I was all BnHAed out with season 5.
  • Mairimashita! Iruma-kun 3: I fell behind after season 2 started airing, so catching up is a big ask.
  • Idolish7 Season 3 Part 2: Wait, I finished season 2 in January of 2021! Slow down! (/jk)

Shorts:

  • Cool Doji Danshi/Play It Cool, Guys: I’ve heard nothing but good things about this anime. I can only hope the comedy lands properly too.

I’m aware I’m putting this post out rather late – I started writing it prior to my Funimation subscription dying more than a week ago and then got stalled by…well, a bunch of stuff, including the Amazing Race as noted. That means I haven’t properly set eyes upon any of the series from this season, as of this post going out on October 9th 2022 in my time, except what I saw at CRX.

So what’s good so far? Is my hype for Akiba Maid Sensou warranted?
