I’ve been hyping this milestone up for a while, haven’t I?

Anime that are eligible here are the ones I watched as they were airing. Ths means everything on the “Anime by Season” sheet of my simulcast commentary document, including the TV short series.

Meta context: I finished writing up the absolutely huge A Magical 2019 yearly rankings the day I wrote this, so I’m even lazier and less willing to type anything else for today. That’s why ther’s only top 5s and not top 10s.

Interesting Stats

• There were 74 anime, not including the preview of ID: Invaded or the short series and grouping subsequent seasons with their original entries (e.g. BnHA s1 – 4 counts as one series, but on the “Anime by Season” sheet it occupies separate positions for spring 2016, spring 2017, summer 2017, spring 2018, summer 2018, fall 2019 and winter 2020, with only the last one not counting towards this post).
• There were 79 anime including TV shorts.
• 2016 is the year that I tried to change things up with the now-outdated “Le Take” system, which was only meant to occur a few times per season. Otherwise, I’ve been consistent with putting up notes for every anime (if I haven’t lost them or had none to put up in the first place).
• The first time the simulcast commentary appeared as it does now is fall 2015.

Since I managed to finish these just fine, this doesn’t mean the listed series are bad, per se…they just need a lot of improvement, but you can enjoy them, flaws and all.

5. Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Arc

4. Rokka no Yuusha/Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace/POSA/Osomatsu-san s1 (tie)

What I specifically mean by “in my opinion” is that it takes into account how my fandoms influenced how I saw the works.

5. Boku no Hero Academia (s1 + 2 + 3 + 4, ongoing)

Despite BnHA never winning the top spot (its top position is no. 4 for s1 so far), it always manages to make a single-digit position in my top 10, so it has to be praised for such a feat.

4. Boueibu (LOVE and Happy Kiss)

Considering how Boueibu took over my life for a good few years, this was a pretty obvious choice for the ranking…

3. Bungou Stray Dogs (s1 + 2 + 3)

Despite its highest rating being no. 7 in any yearly ranking so far (at least, until the next one comes out in a few days), it’s become massively huge for a reason and I’m proud to have said I was part of it all. The fact the mobile game is available in English only helps matters.

2. Houseki no Kuni

This is the anime that proved CGI was cool again and also made waves about how the subbers chose to use non-binary language for the gems. No matter how you look at it, this anime was pretty awesome…although it clearly didn’t wrap up its plot beats when it ended.

1. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (s1 + 2)

What else could it be? This series took out the top spot twice in a row and my only 100 ranking so far, so it really doesn’t have any competition.

Works I Can See Entering the Above List in the Future

This is regardless of whether they have an announced anime (as of the time of writing) or not.

• Wave!! (maybe…?)
• …and of course, there’s always the possibility of a work I’ve never heard of to enter the list and compltely dominate like SGRS has done.
